Ofsted School Inspection Reports
Dear Parents/Carers,
Our lovely school had a visit from Harry Ingham, working for Ofsted, who was impressed with what he saw and very much enjoyed his day.
He sent a letter with his findings which there is a link to in 'downloads'.
Although the letter is addressed to me as headteacher, when he says ‘you’ he refers to the leadership of the school and the staff as a whole. It is the staff team that have made changes and moved forwards as we continually strive to provide the best education we can within the budget provided.
We are pleased that it is a positive report which recognises our strengths and highlights areas that we need to still keep working on. All of these areas had already been identified by the school as priorities and they form part of our school development plans for the coming year.
Safeguarding is the highest grade: ‘effective’. We have procedures in place to ensure this is the case and many thanks go to Emma Mann for her hard work and leadership in this area.
The letter also highlights the wider curriculum as a strength that contributes to the children’s all-round education. This is testament to the extra preparation we do, the projects we undertake, the trips, theme days, the music, dance, sport, clubs and creativity we offer. We know that these aspects are important to your child’s education as much as achieving high academic standards.
The children were a credit to the school and their parents. They were commended for their behaviour, attitude to work, relationships with each other and adults, and for their singing! Y6 rehearsing Robin Hood, were mistaken for the school choir.
The response from parents was very supportive – thank you.
I would like to thank all staff for their hard work and commitment to the school. They go beyond the call of duty to make learning fun and to ensure children feel safe and happy. The cleaners, teaching assistants, teachers, midday supervisors, office staff and governors have all contributed to the success of the school.
Parents and carers are also a key part of Southover. You have supported the school, volunteered in your droves, helped out on trips and raised money for all the extras we desire. The FRIENDS have played a key part in this and personal thanks go to Caroline, Helen and the team who have supported events and organised teams to help the school run smoothly – swimming, sports day, refurbishing outside areas, putting up sheds, designing mascots etc…
Well done to all of the Southover Community.
Yours sincerely,
Noel Fadden
