  • Y34 Footballers shine

Sun 21 Apr 2024 Mr Fadden

We were delighted for the Y34 team winning the East Sussex Albion Cup competition and getting through to the Sussex Finals!

The team headed off to Brighton and Hove Albion’s Elite Football Performance Centre in Lancing. In the Sussex Finals the team played some lovely football and scored plenty of goals as they got through to the quarter finals where they won 3-1 against Southwater and then had a tough semi-final against West Park where they lost to a last gasp goal.  Whilst some of the players were upset not to make it to the final, they should all be proud of the way they played and making it to the best four teams in the Sussex-wide competition.

Congratulations to the team: Robin, Yaser, Joshua, Remy, Nico, Louie, George and Edwin.

  • Bake Off Brilliance!

    Tue 15 Feb 2022

    Southover Bake-Off February 2022

It was a mammoth and enjoyable task to judge the Bake Off. We had over forty entries (we normally have about ten) and the standard was so high. I asked the new rector at Trinity Church, Anita and her husband Richard, to help judge the cakes with me and they were delighted to stay on after leading the assemblies on Friday. I didn’t have my lunch until after school on Friday with so many brilliant bakes! Use this link to find some photos!

We had cup cakes, cookies, biscuits and large cakes for sharing. We looked at all of them and sampled as many as we could. There were coffee laden, energy balls, oat cookies and biscuits with writing on them or smiley faces. I had a chunk off a rainbow cake with about eight layers and a mango and coconut one with so much flavour. We had a near perfect Malteser cake (which sold very quickly) and a light chocolate sponge one which had the best bake. We even had an edible flower set of cup cakes with frosted sage leaves (very nice!).

We came up with eight that we chose as finalists with five highly commended and three ‘winners’.

    Highly commended:

    • Y3 Naiah’s ‘Show stopper’
    • A West African Lion cake by ??
    • Isabelle, Kiana and Imogen’s Rainbow Cake
    • Tobias’ Snake Cake
    • Sally in Kingfisher’s flower cake

    The top three were:

The Polar Bear Cake by …

Live, Love, Learn biscuits by …

    Albert’s Yum Cake

Thank you all for baking and buying the cakes and biscuits as well as the Y6 parents and children who sold them afterwards. We raised over £300 after school!!

  • World Book Day

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

World Book Week (including World Book Day Thursday 3rd March)

    Tuesday 1st – Friday 4th March

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We are looking forward to yet another fantastic World Book Week at Southover. Although the official date for World Book Day is the 3rd of March, we will be celebrating all week (with extra special celebrations on Thursday the 3rd to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of World Book Day).

This year, we have decided to mix up our annual photograph competition. We would love children to recreate a children’s book front cover like the photograph we have attached here. A quick Google search of ‘recreate a children’s book cover’ will come up with lots of suggestions; the more creative, the better. These then need to be handed, or emailed via the email address reading@southover.e-sussex.sch.uk, to Ms Hayward-Tapp by the 2nd of March latest.

But the creativity doesn’t stop there! We are going to hold a ‘Book Bake off’ on Friday 4th March. Children are invited to bake and decorate a cake/cupcakes in the style of a chosen book.

Children will need to bring their bakes in on the morning of the 4th of March and Ms Hayward-Tapp’s book club members will be the judges. After school, we will hold a cake sale and the funds will go towards buying even more books for classroom libraries. Children are invited to join in with both competitions and there are prizes to be won (with thanks to the Friends of Southover)!

On World Book Day itself, children are invited to dress up as either their favourite book character, author or they can even dress up as a word! The choice is theirs. All children will receive a £1 book token on the day which they can spend (in selected stores like Waterstones and Bags of Books) on one of the 12 new books that have been written especially for World Book Day. The Friends will also be hosting a book swap after school on the 3rd so don’t miss out on that! More details to follow from the Friends after half term.

We can’t wait to see the children’s entries for both the book cover competition and the bake off.

Many thanks and have a fantastic half term.

    Ms Hayward-Tapp (English Lead)
